You may not remember me, but I spoke with you when Charlie Daniels came to
visit our Fob (Bernstein) I didn't give you my name but I did get yours. I
have told all the guys about your organization and I wanted to thank you for
all that you do for us guys. I don't think they mentioned you when all the
introductions were being made, but they should have. You make as much, if
not more of a time sacrifice than the stars do. I have attached the picture
that I had taken of you and I here at Fob Bernstein. - Thank you
again, Dennis Knight

Friends of the military at HOME: We had many “SMILES” at FOB Cobra Monday.
Charlie Daniels and his band (CDB) visited us at FOB Cobra, Iraq. We had
several groups that really worked hard to make sure his visit was a success.
From setting up the stage with camo cover shade, to helping with
electricity/generators for sound, from the Chapels sound system, from just
making sure he had a stool to sit on during his performance, everyone
pitched in for the show. The mess section provided ice, the first we have
had since arriving in Iraq for cold drinks and water for all. The
Appreciation Award we gave him from the Raider Squadron was hand made by
soldiers with the USA, the TN State, and the Iraqi Flag which were all
donated by our soldiers. Everyone enjoyed his performance; he is a True
American Patriot. We held the traditional Cavalry Spurring Ceremony for him
also, we spurred him and told him, he was fighting the “War on Terrorism”
just the same as we were. Our units from Ashland City to Jamestown surround
his middle Tennessee home and we told him he would always have us there for
him if he needed us for anything. He said he knew he was well protected with
us close by, he sang his heart out for us, and the songs that received the
most applause were Amazing Grace and Rocky Top. He did his usual excellent
performance with a picture and autograph session for all of our soldiers
afterward; and then we presented him his gifts and spurred him. He is now an
honorary member of the 3/278th RCT from TN. He also flew by Blackhawk to the
other Forward Operating Bases with TN soldiers with additional attached
soldiers from many other States. The soldiers “Smiles” made the day great
for all of us, it made us forget for a few minutes where we were and we felt
like we were back home again. He was on the ground with us for nearly 3
hours. He said he would keep us in his prayers and he would see us when we
got back to TN. THANKS from FOB Cobra, please remember our soldiers in your
prayers. Raider Seven -

Hello Judy;
I am SFC William Craig Reid. I am currently serving in Iraq. I have been
away from my family since August 2004. I should be going home early next
year. You can’t imagine how hard it is to be way from your family for that
amount of time. We are able to talk and email when that technology is
working. I have seen things in this country that no man should ever have to
see or endure. I have seen people blown up, pieces blown off and soldiers
laying in their own blood and screaming from an IED attack or a VBIED
attack. Our guys get up each day and suit up and will not know if this
will be their last day on earth. We pray a lot, we think about home
constantly and we don’t want to die in this God forsaken country. But, we
do it anyway, It is our duty and an honor to represent a country as great
as our country the United States of America is. Our Fathers did it, our
grandfathers, our uncles, our brothers and other fellow warriors have done
it. If that cost is our life, then so be it. A small cost to allow my
children and their family the safety and freedom to live in the United
States of America No one loves war, but we can not turn our backs, because
if we do our country will lose it’s freedom and we will become the same as
the third world countries that we are trying to help and give a taste of
freedom to. We have to thank God for all of our blessings and pray that he
will continue to bless us and our great country.
In saying all of this, I would like to personally thank Charlie Daniels not
only as a fellow musician, (I play Guitar) very hard to find over here, but
as a fellow American Warrior. You are in the fight right along beside us.
I appreciate you and I thank you. I hope one day I will be able to take my
family to one of your shows and to meet you.
Again, thank you for what you do for all the soldiers. We see the negative
press coverage on the news while in the DFAC.(Dining Facility). We get a
good laugh from it. It doesn’t change our views about America or it’s
people or the War against terror. We realize that it just the media pushing
it’s agenda down the American people’s throats and reporting to them what
they want them to hear. If the people of America could be here to see and
hear what the terrorist have done to this country and it’s people, they
would be fully behind us and President Bush in this effort. This type of
warfare and terrorist activity can not be allowed to invade our country. It
will never be safe to go to Church to any populated sports events or even
concerts.
So Mr. Daniels, thank you and God Bless you and your family. My family are
all down in Mississippi, and that is where I live. I hope to see you in
concert one day. Thanks again.
