NASHVILLE,
Tenn. (April 14, 2010)--Country music recording
artist Mark Chesnutt brought country home to
the men and women of the Army, Marines and U.S. Air
Force in South Korea last week as part of an official
“Stars For Stripes” tour. The tour began
Tuesday, April 6, 2010; Mark endured a seven and
one-half hour flight from Nashville to Anchorage,
Alaska (Elmendorf AFB) via a KC 135 airplane
(compliments of MacDill Air National Guard). After a
short layover in Anchorage, he flew for more than nine
hours to arrive safely at Kunsan AB, Korea. Upon
arrival, Mark and his band boarded two Chinook
helicopters to fly to Camp Humphreys where he stayed
for three nights.
Chesnutt performed his first show at Gateway
Park--Camp Casey before a group of nearly 2,000 men
and women. The following evening he performed at Camp
Humphreys. He closed the tour with a show at Kunsan
AB where he performed for the Wolf Pack–the 8th
Fighter Wing of U.S. Air Force. In his downtime,
Chesnutt visited the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) that
separates North and South Korea.
“It was the time of my life; an experience I’ll
never forget,” Chesnutt said. “We flew in Black
Hawk and Chinook helicopters and even rode in a tank.
Although I can say we all had fun and our time there
was surreal, the visit really brought a sense of
clarity to the reality of the life that these men and
women are living. They spend their lives away from
family, protecting our country to enable us to spend
time with ours. What an unselfish act of sacrifice.”
This overseas tour launches Chesnutt’s summer
schedule; Mark is expected to play nearly eighty-plus
shows this season.
