NASHVILLE, Tenn.
– Charlie Daniels, Darryl Worley, and Chris Young have made
music their contribution to our men and women deployed in the
Middle East. On Tuesday night, they said thanks to a family who
sacrificed on 9/11.
Most Americans find it painful to remember
September 11, but a New York husband and wife are in town to see
that Americans never forget.
"Sad to say, but December 7th you can't
find anything in the papers about Pearl Harbor," said John
Vigiano, who lost two first responder sons in the terrorist
attacks. "And I don't want that to be September 11th."
Vigiano and his wife, Jan Vigiano, were at
The Palm Tuesday night for "Have You Forgotten?" A Stars for
Stripes benefit in remembrance of September 11. The couple's two
sons, John T. Vigiano Jr., a FDNY firefighter; and Joseph V.
Vigiano, a NYPD detective, both died in the twin towers that
fateful day.
Jan Vigiano said the pain is still as
fresh as if it happened yesterday, even this many years later.
Another featured hero was Lt. Jason
Redman, a former US Navy Seal injured in combat four years ago.
"I was hit at least eight times that we
know of," said Redman of the ambush style attack overseas.
"Three to the body, so I took two in the arm, and I took one in
the face."
Troops like Redman's are often entertained
while in combat by artists like Charlie Daniels, who hosted the
fundraiser for Stars for Stripes; also Darryl Worley, and Chris
Young. All three men saluted the founder of Stars for Stripes:
the group that, since its inception in 2003 has accompanied 54
celebrity entertainment tours overseas, 37 of those going
throughout Iraq and five throughout Afghanistan.
