2006 SemperComm Gala and Silent Auction
Springfield, VA
– May 4, 2006 - The 2006 SemperComm Gala and Silent Auction will be
on Thursday, May 11, at the Mandarin Oriental hotel, 1330 Maryland Ave., SW,
Washington, D.C. The event will raise funds for The SemperComm Foundation,
which is a nonprofit charitable organization that provides communication and
entertainment equipment and services to overseas remote U.S. military
bases. The bases supported by SemperComm typically do not receive morale,
welfare and recreation equipment and services due to their locations and
size.
The entire event is a black-tie dinner, silent auction, awards ceremony and
mini-concert, which starts at 6 p.m. and is scheduled to end at 11 p.m.
Tickets are still available. For media members, tickets are free of charge;
general public, $200; active-duty military, $125.
SemperComm has confirmed the attendance of several members of Congress,
high-ranking U.S. military and Department of Defense officials, major
business leaders (Boeing, Microsoft, Morgan Stanley, American Airlines,
ESPN, Northrop Grumman) and a few foreign ambassadors. Country singer Aaron
Tippin, secured by SemperComm partner Stars for Stripes, will provide
entertainment for the event. The crowd is expected to be about 700.
Also attending will be a group of combat-wounded Iraq War veterans, all of
whom are currently receiving care at either Bethesda Naval Hospital or
Walter Reed Army Medical Center.
Media is invited to attend the event and will be asked to register upon
arrival at a designated check-in. A riser and mult-boxes will be available
in the main ballroom. For your convenience, VIPs will be attending a
separate reception from 6 to 7:30 p.m., during which time media is invited
to interview VIP guests.
