Nashville Palm
benefit raised more than $75,000 for Stars for Stripes
The
Nashville Palm hosted “Have You Forgotten?” a benefit commemorating
the 10-year anniversary of the September 11 attacks,
on Tuesday, September 20.
Country music legend and Opry member Charlie Daniels and his
wife Hazel will hosted the event, along with celebrity guests Chris
Young and Darryl Worley.
Emceed by GAC’s
Storme Warren, The Palm’s signature surf and turf dinner was served
while artists Charlie Daniels, Darryl Worley and Chris Young
performed hit songs. All three musicians also donated handwritten
lyrics to the benefit. Charlie Daniels’ two copies of “Let ‘Em Win
or Bring ‘Em Home” sold for $24,000 dollars. This event
raised
more than $75,000 for
Stars for Stripes, which is an organization dedicated to providing
quality celebrity entertainment
to American troops stationed overseas.
Special guests John
and Jan Vigiano and Lieutenant Jason Redman were honored at the
benefit. Charlie Daniels personally thanked the guests and presented
them with one of his autographed
fiddles. John Vigiano is a former marine
and a retired member of the New York Fire Department. He and his
wife lost both of their sons September 11, 2001 in the attacks on
the Twin Towers in NYC. Redman is a
highly decorated Navy Seal who was
shot seven times in the face and arms with a machine gun during an
operation in Iraq in 2007.
Charlie Daniels, known for his fiddle playing, is a music icon who
has been performing and writing songs for more than five decades. He
formed the Charlie Daniels Band in 1972, creating straightforward
country music including the number one hit, “The Devil Went Down to
Georgia.” Daniels is the recipient of awards from The Country Music
Association, The Academy of Country Music, and The Gospel Music
Association. He is a proud member of the Grand Ole Opry, the
Musicians Hall of Fame and was honored with a star on the Music City
Walk of Fame. Let ‘Em Win or Bring ‘Em Home, is the
newest patriotic song penned by Daniels, receiving standing ovations
when performed live. The CDB's current CD release Land That I
Love, a patriotic compilation, includes two new cuts (Iraq
Blues and What This World Needs is a Few More Rednecks 2010).
Daniels has performed more that 30
concerts for the military nationally and internationally, including
several tours with Stars for Stripes.
Over the past decade, Darryl Worley has won numerous music industry
awards, recorded six albums, and sold more than 2 million records
worldwide. He has charted 19 hits, including #1 singles, “I Miss My
Friend,” “Awful Beautiful Life,” and "Have You Forgotten.” Darryl
has established himself as a well-respected hit maker in Nashville
and has become one of the industry’s most compelling artists.
Darryl has participated in 5 tours to Southwest Asia
since 2002 and 2 tours to South Korea to entertain the troops.
Recently
nominated for his first GRAMMY® Award for Best Male Country Vocal
Performance with his hit, “Gettin’ You Home,” Chris Young currently
is out on the road with Jason Aldean on his sold-out “My
Kinda Party” Tour.
With his rich, warm baritone and penchant for writing relatable,
slice-of-life songs, Young has emerged as both a critic and fan
favorite with four consecutive #1s at radio including the GOLD
selling single "Tomorrow" from the brand new album
NEON.
Since
2009, Young has participated in two tours to Southwest Asia, one of
which is featured on a one-hour GAC TV special titled, "Stars For
Stripes - Wounded Warriors Return."
”Have You Forgotten?” is sponsored by Military
Systems Group, Inc, Nashville Lifestyles Magazine, Horizon Wine &
Spirits and the Gary Sinise Foundation.
