"Chelys visit to Baghdad"

I am currently serving over seas in Iraq and Kuwait for Operation Iraqi Freedom...

I am currently serving over seas in Iraq and Kuwait for Operation Iraqi Freedom. My name is SSG Brian Ray I am currently serving over seas in Iraq and Kuwait for Operation Iraqi Freedom. I got a chance to read about Chelys visit to Baghdad to perform for the troops, I was unable to see this because I am not stationed there, but I would like to tell you about something great that Chely and the other performers of the USO did. I was living in a place called Talil airbase in the southern part of Iraq. Talil is a small air base and we had been fighting sand storms and the heat for weeks with out end. To our surprise we found out that Chely Wright and many other performers where going to come to our little base to do a meet and greet. I was really exited because I have a little in common with her, we where both born in Kansas City, so I could not wait to say Hi, and get a picture with her. When they arrived they where surprised to find out that the post command had been told that they would do a show. Well not to let anyone down Chely got on stage with a gu itar that she claimed she was not that good at playing and played us all a song. The whole time she was doing this the tent covering the stage tried to fall on her. Despite the heat, wind and sand it had to be one of the best shows that I had ever been to, and I am honored that they took the time to do what they did for us. I am proud to be serving my country to protect the likes of the performers that did what they did so we could have a little bit of home. I was unable to get a picture with her because of the crowd and we had to go back to work. So Chely if you read this I would like to thank you, and the other performers of the USO for what you did that day. So Thank you and God bless you.
