"Bahrain in 1998"
During one deployment to Bahrain in 1998, we were located on a small Bahraini Air Base in the southern part of the country.
The work schedule was very hectic upon arrival due to the fact that we had to set up our office tents and sleeping facilities and still conduct our jobs. We were working pretty solidly for the first several weeks when out of the blue, Paula Cole (Where have all the Cowboy's gone? fame) showed up with her band. She conducted an acoustic set for about 100 of us, signed autographs, and pressed on. While this was an unscheduled stop for her, it was a great surprise, especially since we felt we were out of the mainstream of USO shows. The morale really picked up as it reminded us of the United States and the fact that people were still thinking about us and appreciated what we were doing.
